Kann der Yamaha TG500 Patches vom SY85 laden?

Die Frage sagts ja schon. Mir wurde sehr günstig ein Yamaha TG500 angeboten und nun frag ich mich ob ich da die Patches vom SY 85 reingeladen kriege. Irgendwie komme ich mit meiner Recherche gerade nicht weiter.

Sollte eigentlich gehen, der TG500 ist einer SY85 mit mehr Wellenformen.

Meines Wissens nach sind die Patches austauschbar.
Guck doch mal unter dem Amazona.de Bericht, da schrieben ein paar Nutzer etwas dazu.
Ich müßte das selbst erst raussuchen, ob es geht.

Das hatte ich auch gefunden, hatte aber auch in Erinnerung, daß es geht.

Habe mir gerade nochmal die Sysexdaten der beiden Geräte angeschaut (sind im extra pdf MIDI Data Format dokumentiert), und diese sind identisch.

Es gab allerdings beim SY85 in alten ROM-Versionen einen Bug oder eine Änderung zwischen den Versionen, sodaß neuere Versionen nicht die Patches der alten Version laden konnten. Ist auch in einem Thread im Yamaha-Forum beschrieben.

Ok also nochmal. So wie es aussieht kann der TG500 zwar über Sysex Sounds laden, die SY85 Sounds die man im Netz findet haben aber ein eigenes Format was für Disketten vorgesehen ist. Die Dateien haben ein Format .G01, .G02, G03. Das lässt sich wohl nicht konvertieren um es in den TG500 zu dumpen. Das ist natürlich schlecht! Hat da jemand noch andere Informationen?

Ach, das.
Das sind Disk-Images für ein bestimmtes Programm, natürlich blöd.
Schätze mal, daß in den Yahoo-Gruppen da was zu holen ist, zumindest in Yamaha Black Boxes gab es einiges. Ich weiß grad nimmer, ob ich da noch drin bin, sonst könnte ich da mal schauen.

Vielleicht mal den User SpotlightKid anschreiben, der hatte lange einen SY85, vielleicht hat der noch was im Archiv oder gar online.

nein so einfach ist das alles nicht. .Gxx versteht nur der SY85. Mit einem SY85 könnte man per MIDI Dump Daten einer Gxx Datei auf einen TG500 Daten schicken. Tools wie WAVE2 und AWAVE Studio können auch nur bedingt helfen, da die nur .Wxx verstehen. Das wiederum der TG500 verstehen kann (siehe unten).

Eine andere Austauschmöglichkeit müsste evtl. über die Wave Cards gehen, leider gibt es keinen Reader dafür.

Wave2 (and its bigger better brother Resample pro for windows) are sample convertors only. They support SY85 .Wxx files (samples) but not .Gxx files (ALL data) which contain patch/seq/multi/system data in one file. These files may contain samples but don`t necessarily do.

You can`t dump a .Gxx file via MIDI (without converting it first), they must be loaded in via floppy disk and since the TG500 doesn`t have one this is impossible. I can`t remember if there are any .Gxx -> .SYX (MIDI sysex) convertors for SY85 but there is one for the .Txx (SY77 ALL data) though I seriously doubt it can handle SY85 .Gxx at all. In any event, a convertor would have to strip and convert only the patch data for your purpose.

Short of a convertor, you`ll need someone with a working SY85+disk drive, to load in and convert the .Gxx to .SYX for you. Unless you find the patches in .SYX format already of course.

The SY85 and TG500 aren`t 100% compatible but you basically can share SY85 patches with one without any initial patch modifcations. SY85 -> TG500 is a lot more easy than TG500 -> SY85 since the TG500 has some things the 85 does not.

The only way to get patch data in/out of the TG500 is via MIDI sysex or 64KB RAM cards.

I could write a convertor that extracts patch data from .Gxx once I`ve finished checking out the .Gxx file format.

Der TG500 hat weniger Speicher als der SY85. Man muss den TG500 also ersteinmal um 512kb bzw. 2x 512kb aufbohren. Siehe hier http://www.sector101.co.uk/syemb06.html

Ein weiteres Problem ist auch, das die Performances eines SY85 auf Wellenformen zurückgreifen die beim SY85 an einem anderen Ort gespeichert sind als bei einem TG500. Die Speicherorganisation ist in den beiden Kisten etwas unterschiedlich.

Unlike the SY85 the TG500 ships with no onboard sample memory at all. You can install up to two of these modules to give you 1MB of non-volatile sample memory to play with.

Samples can be loaded from Waveform Cards, or sent to the unit using Midi Sample Dump.

As with the SY85 the sample and waveform parameters will be stored intact so there is nothing you need to setup again after powering up!

Ok danke mal. Das ist ja übelst kompliziert. Glaub der Tg500 wirds dann erstmal doch nicht für mich. Soundmäßig hätte mir der übelst zugesagt. Wollte den halt mit Sounds füttern und dann in einem Standalone Setup mit einer EMX nutzen. Ich nehme an das gleiche Spiel ist es beim SY77 und dem TG77? Echt schiet....

naja, solange du die Wellenformen benutzt die in beiden Geräten sind (der TG 500 sollte alle des SY 85 haben), ist da doch kein Problem. Musst halt nur an die SYSEX Daten kommen. Glaube nicht das so viele Samples beim SY 85 verwendet haben. Hab selber einen TG500 und finde den Sound auch absolut hervorragend für so eine "billige" Kiste. Die Bedienung ist nur ... ist halt ein 90er Rack-Gerät.

Doch da gibts ein Problem unter Umständen, siehe oben. Die guten Disks sind alles Gxx Dateien u.a. mit Samples.

Does anyone know of a utility or some info about the format of the files on the sy85 floppies so people with a TG500 can get that data into a TG500 without having an SY85? I have several floppies and several .s85, etc files downloaded, but no way to get them into the tg500... I have seen people ask about this before but no working answers appear to be had...

.S85 files can be renamed to .SYX and loaded using a sysex dumper like Midi-Ox. If you look at the file in a hex editor you can see the sysex headers and trailers are all there. You may get an error at the end if the .S85 file has any sequence data or data after the last F7. These are not the same files as the .G01 files with samples and should load ok. Please let me know if you have any problems with this.

Die S85 und SYSEX Dateien sind wahrscheinlich nicht so interessant wie die Gxx Dateien.

Gxx geht leider nur wenn man einen SY85 hat.

Nein. Viellecht dann wenn ich ein TG500 kaufe. Das Ganze macht aber auch erst Sinn wenn der TG500 mit 2x512kb gepimpt worden ist. Leider gehen .Gxx Dateien nicht. Eigene SampleSets aber dafür.
