Tonebank. Sequencer für Afrikanische Rhythmen.

meiner Meinung nach ein weiteres Meisterwerk von Node Audio. Die Ein-Mann-Firma Node Audio hat schon Grosses geschaffen mit Entonal. Nun kommt ein Notengeber, Sequencer von dieser Firma, der ganz anders zu benutzen ist wie übliche Sequencer und Arpeggiatoren. Es sind eigentlich nur zwei oder drei Regler da, die die Varietät bestimmen - monoton mit vorhersagbarer Notengebung, oder überraschend lebendig mit Variationen. Tonebank kostet nicht viel, 65 SFR und wohl auch in ähnlicher Preislage in Euro und USD.

Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, Tonebank Beta vor ein paar Monaten zu testen. Es ist der Sofortbonus, der einen überrascht. Man lädt mehrere Instanzen von Tonebank in die DAW, und steuert mehrere Tonerzeuger in Soft- und Hardware wenn vorhanden. Die Instanzen erkennen sich gegenseitig, und man muss nur ein Pluginfenster offen haben, um die gesamte Sache zu steuern. Funktioniert sehr gut.

Die etwas minimale Beurteilung des Plugins hat den Grund, dass ich seit mehreren Monaten mobil unterwegs bin, fern von meinem Studio. Mit iPad und Solarsystem ohne Computer. Ich werde diesen Winter Gelegenheit haben, mich noch tiefer mit Tonebank zu beschäftigen, und freue mich enorm darauf.

Immer eines nach dem anderen. Momentan bin ich einfach auf das iPad beschränkt, was ja auch enorm vielfältig ist. Nebenbei, Entonal ist für iPadOS erhältlich.

Konversation zwischen zwei Melodiestimmen: in der einen Instanz "Phrase Mode" auf "Ending" stellen, in der anderen Instanz auf "Beginning".



Das hatte ich bisher noch nicht beachtet gehabt. Sehr hilfreich. Auch dass man die Farbe ändern kann. Aufs Tonebank Logo klicken, dann kann man aus vier Farben wählen.

Tonebank ist, wie auch Entonal, bis Dezember zum halben Preis erhältlich.

Refreshed Interface​

Tonebank 2.0 features a visual refresh with improved clarity and workflow, as well as improved accessibility support.

Freeze has become Generate.

Accompaniment mode has been renamed to Loop mode.

Four selectable colour schemes allow you to differentiate between instances at a glance.

Custom Harmony Editor​

The most requested feature since launch: users can now create their own harmonic systems. The new Harmony Editor allows you to build custom chord sets of up to six rows, input notes via an on-screen keyboard or MIDI, and save harmonies for reuse. This makes Tonebank useful as a composition tool for any style of music — not only those rooted in traditional African systems. Whether you work in jazz, classical, electronic or anything in between, you can now define exactly the harmonic language Tonebank improvises within.

Pitch Sliders (Loop Mode)​

A new Pitch Sliders view in Loop mode gives direct, visual control over every note in your generated sequence.
Move sliders up and down to adjust individual pitches within the harmonic framework, and see exactly which note will play at each position.
Each slider has its own automatable parameter, so you can record adjustments for later editing or map them to a MIDI controller for live performance.
Notes can also be activated or deactivated, giving you precise control over the rhythmic density of your patterns.

MIDI Control of Tonic​

Tonebank’s Tonic — the root note that governs all harmonic output — can now be changed in real time via incoming MIDI notes.
This opens the door to live key changes within a performance or arrangement, without needing to automate the parameter. When Sync Instances is enabled, a Tonic change on one instance propagates to all linked instances, keeping your entire ensemble in the same key.

Tie Notes​

A new row of Tie buttons beneath the grid lets you overlap the end of one note with the start of the next.
This is particularly useful for monophonic instruments where you want slides, glides or portamento effects — great for 303 style basslines.

Custom Clave Editor​

The Clave — the rhythmic backbone that determines where harmonic changes occur — can now be user-defined.
Accessible from the Clave dropdown via “Edit…”, this lets you create rhythmic structures beyond the built-in patterns, for extreme syncopation and new rhythmic framworks.

Instance Sync

Per-instance sync control lets you decouple individual instances from the shared grid when needed — useful for layering parts with different harmonies.
Copy and Paste Settings options in the menu make it faster to duplicate configurations across instruments.

Coming soon to iOS (AUv3)​

Tonebank will soon be available as an AUv3 plugin on iOS, bringing the same generative harmonic engine to mobile music production workflows.
Producers using apps such as AUM, Cubasis, Logic Pro and other AUv3-compatible hosts will be able to generate melodies, basslines and textures on the go.
