Standard for MIDI Signals - short: GM
does this
- Which Drumsound is where (all on Midi Channel 10)
- Norms the Sound Set, eg Prog 0 is a Grand Piano, even the FX are in the place like helicopter and telephone. also more usefull for mobile phones, not so usefull for those who like to program sounds.
- Some Parameters are routed to special MIDI Controllers, which are only valid when the Synth or the Computer is in GM Mode (General Midi) like FX Send (Effect Level) or Cutoff Frequency of the Filter.
- all GM Sound Generators must receive on 16 MIDI Channels and MUST be 16x multitimbral or more.
GM (General Midi)
- legt bestimmte Parameter fest und legt diese auf einige Controllernummern, nicht immer sinnvoll aber standardisiert.
- Legt die Position bzw Programmplätze für Sounds genau fest, zB wo ist der Helikopter Sound und wo ist der Flügel und das Klavier. Natürlich ist das eher nicht im (Klang)Profibereich, denn mehr im "Midi Song Abspiel"-Business und Handies ein wichiges Thema für Nichtmusiker, denn aktuelle Rechner haben einen kleinen GM Synthesizer an Bord, der .MID Files abspielen können soll.
- alle GM Klangerzeuger müssen mind. 16fach multitimbral sein.
- Welcher Schlagzeugsound ist wo auf dem Keyboard? und stets auf Kanal 10, auch das ist genormt und heute immer die Referenz für die Lage der Einzelsounds auf dem Keyboard (Keymapping)
