ABOUT rom based drum machine often used by Front242 on their album "no comment" or depeche mode on "work hard" track. it's no soft sounding thing.. also some internal rom samples. the SP1200 is an upgraded SP12 (2 years later) with 256KB ram and midi. the sp12 had 1,2sec sample memory.
ABOUT eine sampler-version des drumulator.. rel. wenig speicher, für 5sek. reichts aber.. wurde erneut "kult" im HipHop-Bereich durch den 12bit sound.. es gibt auch ein paar feste rom sounds. Der SP1200 ist ein verbesserter SP12 (2 jahre später) mit 256KB ram. Ein sample kann also maximal 2,5 sekunden lang sein. es passen jedoch mehrere

the sp12 had 1,2 sec sample ram - with expansion 2.5secs (x2) - the Commodore disc drive 1541 can be used to save and load sounds!
but it is slow (300byte/sec)
the sp1200 had 4x 2.5secs. and has an internal disc drive but no buffering of sounds in a flash ram anymore like the sp12 has.
the sp12 had 1,2 sec sample ram - with expansion 2.5secs (x2) - the Commodore disc drive 1541 can be used to save and load sounds!

VERSION sp12 / sp1200 .. vorallem durch speichergrößen unterschiedlich und das Disk-Laufwerk, dafür sind sp1200-sounds nicht batteriegepuffert.

Once very innovative in modular systems incl. new digital technologies and the very well known Emulator Sampler series and Sample libraries bought Ensoniq (incl their polypressure patent, but do not even sell keyboards with polypressure today..)
well, they were bought by Creative Labs and possibly thats why they no longer make hardware samplers or synthesizers and lost their compatibelity to the Mac. so overall a sad ending story of a very innovative american dream.

THE MANUFACTURER
Emu waren der Erfinder sehr innovativer Modularsysteme mit ersten digitalen Komponenten, der Emulator Sampler Reihe und kaufte die ebenso innovativee Firma Ensoniq und wurden später von Creative Labs übernommen und verkaufen leider heute weder die polypressure Technik von Ensoniq noch Hardware Sampler oder Synthesizer. Sie waren nicht nur legendär, sondern waren auch für eine gute Klangbibliothek bekannt und sehr Mac-freundlich. Das ist heute anders, keines der Prdukte heute ist Mactauglich. Sehr traurige Entwicklung aus Sicht eines Synthesizer oder Mac-Nutzers.
