Divice that looks for an analog control signal and memorizes it. a trigger will give the frequency or the clock of when a "sample" is made, of course this has nothing to do with [[Sampling]], but technically it takes control signal samples of any signal in a Synthesizer and holds that value until the next clock signal was triggered and will sample the next control voltage signal. the classic result of Sample and Hold (also S/H, Sample/Hold) is a rhythmical random Noise, most modern Synthesizers got LFOs with S/H setting, which will give a frequent and random signal which is clocked.

to be more exact: when a Sawtooth Oscillator or a Noise Signal is sampled and will stay until the next clock signal will reach the S/H, so it is sort of Random Noise - but "Stepped". Most Movies use S/H Sounds that controls the Pitch of a Tone when Computers are part of the Movie, the Wargames Computer eg. or any other Computer has a lot of blinking LEDs and S/H Sound (randomly played pitch but changed regularly).

Sample & Hold ist eine Methode, um eine Spannung (meist eine Steuerspannung) genau zu einem Zeitpunkt einzufrieren und zu speichern bis ein weiteres Signal erneut Signal gibt, das dann aktuelle Signal festzuhalten. Dies wird auch oft in LFOs als Wellenform angeboten und ist Zufall, genauer ist es bei einem Rauschsignal als Eingang und mit regelmäßiger Clock-Triggerung (was ein LFO dann tut) ein Zufallssignal mit Stufen, jeder Trigger erzeugt ein neues Signal. Sehr gerne wird so ein Sample & Hold Signal auf die Tonhöhe gelegt und in vielen Filmen als typischer Klang für "Computer" genutzt, immer wenn einer im Raum ist..
