beginner question: analog/digital step sequencers

i'm very new when it comes to hardware step sequencers, however, i decided i finally want to invest in one. Any recommendation/shared experience on any particular brands?

Things so far that have come to mind are the likes of
mfbStep64,
MAQ16/3 ... that said, how does the mfb602 compare to mfbStep64

i know this is redigulously limited.... any thoughts/experiences?
