I was opening the .sit file with Stuffit Expander 9, which ruined the file and didn't let me open the app - aparently fine.
I tried Stuffit Expander 7 and now the editor works.

Of course I could use a Sequencer to achieve similar results but that's just not the same as a dedicated...
