New Features and Improvements

Bounce to Audio:

  • When using the Bounce to New Track command, bounced tracks now display a unique track number instead of the source track’s number. When first bounced, new tracks will use one number higher than the source track, so if track 3 is bounced, the new track becomes track 4.

Browser:

  • When starting a new search with the Ctrl F (Win) / Cmd F (Mac) shortcut, any previous search terms and active filters in the All label are now cleared.

Interface:

  • Updated software text in various areas of Live.
  • Updated various software text translations in German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.

Live Bugfixes:

  • Bouncing a Group Track no longer produces a silent bounce file when a track outside the group is soloed. This behavior is now consistent with bouncing individual tracks.
  • Fixed an issue where bouncing a nested Group Track caused the main Group Track’s effects to be applied to the bounced audio twice.

Setup:

Bugfixes

Live Bugfixes:

  • Fixed an issue where it was possible to extend the right edge of a bounced audio clip past the original source clip length.
  • Fixed an issue where MIDI signals routed to a plug-in via the External Instrument device were ignored when exporting the track containing the plug-in using the Selected Tracks Only option.
  • Fixed a bug in the APC64 Control Surface that could result in an error being written to Live's Log.txt file when using a touch strip to adjust a disabled parameter.
  • Accessibility:
Fixed an issue that occurred when navigating Max for Live devices with the keyboard while wrapped navigation was turned off.
  • Fixed an issue where the DS HH instrument could miss notes.
  • Fixed an issue where samples could not be dropped from the Session or Arrangement View onto plug-in windows as expected.
  • Fixed an issue where adding a device with a focused control to a multiselection caused the multiselection to be lost. Adding devices to a multiselection now works as expected. As a result of this change, selecting a device’s title bar now clears the focus of any controls within the device.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur on Windows when closing Live from the taskbar after confirming whether to save a modified Live Set.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when loading a Soundtoys plug-in and then performing an undo step to remove the plug-in.
  • The buttons in the Help View header now use a square shape.
  • Fixed an issue where using the Bounce Track In Place command on a track containing only a very short clip created an additional undo step.
  • Live no longer crashes when selecting and deleting multiple tracks when one of the tracks has a remote~ mapped to a track parameter.
  • Fixed an issue where soloing would not work as expected in some scenarios involving an instrument modulated by a Max for Live device.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in Session View when dragging a clip selection containing a clip that was being recorded.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when starting Live with the screen zoomed in using the macOS Zoom accessibility feature.

Max for Live:

  • Updated the bundled Max version to build 9.0.10. This includes a fix for an issue on Push 3 that occurred when disabling OpenGL in the context of Max for Live. Please see the [Max 9.0.10 Release Notes](https://cycling74.com/releases/max/9.0.10) for all updates.

New Features and Improvements

Link Audio

To get a first introduction into the Link Audio feature, please see this video.

rn1.png

The new Link Audio feature enables real-time audio streaming between Link peers in a shared session. To send or receive audio, ensure that both Link and Link Audio are enabled on all relevant peers. When enabled, all tracks with audio output can be received by Link peers.

Active peers appear in the new Link drop-down menu in the Control Bar. Audio from Link Audio peers becomes available in the input type choosers on audio tracks.

A dedicated Link page has also been added to Live’s Settings. It contains all of the previously available options related to Link, as well as the following new options related to Link Audio:

  • An Audio toggle for enabling Link Audio.
  • A Name field where you can specify the name to be displayed to connected peers.
  • A Latency slider which you can use to set the input latency applied to audio received from peers. We recommend adjusting this according to your network performance and workflow needs.
  • A Monitoring Mode toggle for enabling monitoring of incoming audio from peers. Note that enabling Monitoring Mode delays Live’s audio rendering relative to other peers. We recommend that you disable direct monitoring on peers that are sending audio. Only one peer in a session should have the Monitoring Mode enabled.
  • A list of Link Audio peers, including the peers' statuses and buffering size.
For the best streaming quality and reliability, you should use a wired LAN connection with Link Audio. Wi-Fi is supported, but audio quality depends on the stability of the wireless network.

Note that Live’s global Audio Buffer Size affects Link Audio streaming latency. Lower buffer sizes on receiving peers and higher buffer sizes on sending peers can help achieve lower streaming latency.

Erosion

rn2.png

The Erosion device has been updated to feature new sound capabilities, as well as a refreshed interface.

The new Noise Blend control allows you to continuously blend sine and noise modulation. You can now also continuously blend mono and stereo, which allows the stereo width to be scaled precisely.

In addition, the algorithmic latency in the device has been reduced to 2 ms, down from the previous ~5 ms.

Note the previous version of the device has been renamed to Erosion Legacy. When opening Sets that contain Erosion presets created prior to this update, the legacy device will be automatically loaded.

Chorus-Ensemble

rn3.png

The Classic mode in the Chorus-Ensemble device has been renamed to Chorus and refined to improve results with a wider range of source material.

The mode now features two new parameters: Time and Taps. You can use the Time chooser to select a fixed delay time, making it possible to set longer base delays that can be useful when working with bass or guitar sounds. The Taps parameter gives you the option to switch between one or two tap delay. The single tap delay can help achieve simpler, thicker chorus textures similar to classic hardware pedals.

Note that the default values for the parameters ensure backward compatibility with older Sets.

Delay

rn4.png

The LFO section in the Delay device has been extended to provide more time modes and LFO shapes. The additional time modes allow setting the LFO rate in Hertz, milliseconds, or tempo-synced beat divisions.

You can choose from seven LFO waveforms and use the new Morph parameter to shape the selected waveform.

Separate Stems for Time Selection

rn5.png

When separating a clip into stems in either the Session or Arrangement View, only the audible part of the file that is now processed. This helps reduce the time required to run stem separation.

It is also now possible to separate a selected portion of a clip into stems in the Arrangement View, instead of separating the entire audio file.

Merge Selected Stems to Single Track

rn6.png

When separating stems, it is now possible to merge the selected stems into a single new audio track using the Merge to single track checkbox. This can be useful for removing specific stems, such as vocals.

The checkbox is disabled when only one or four stems are selected. After stem separation, the selected stems are merged into a single audio file as the final step.

Learn View

rn7.png

A new Learn View, accessible from the Help menu, replaces the existing Help View and its associated lessons. This redesigned learning experience makes it easier to explore Live’s core concepts.

Learn View provides structured learning modules that combine video content with written explanations, guiding you through Live’s interface and key features step by step. You can filter lessons by topic and marked them as completed to track your progress. Videos can be viewed in a Picture-in-Picture window, allowing you to follow along while Learn View is closed.

All currently available videos are also accessible via our Learn View Youtube Playlist. Note that the number of available modules is currently very limited. Additional modules will be added throughout the beta period and may be released independently of beta updates.

Lessons for your installed Packs remain accessible via the Pack Overview option in the Help menu. You can also open individual lessons from the browser, by selecting the Show Pack Info option from the context menu of an installed Pack.

Quick Tags Improvements

rn8.png

rn9.png

It is now possible to create new tags, parent tags, or tag groups directly from Quick Tags.

To create a new tag from Quick Tags, simply start typing a tag name. If the tag does not exist, you will see an option to create it. Press Enter or click Create new tag… to confirm. You will then be prompted to select a group or parent tag for the newly created tag. You can type in an existing group or parent, or you can create your own by typing in your desired name and then selecting the Create new parent tag… or Create new tag group… option.

Additional Features and Improvements

  • Wavetable now supports up to 16 voices.
  • Devices can now be renamed while folded. Renaming automatically unfolds the device so that the editable title is visible.
  • The filter decay in Drum Sampler’s 8-Bit playback effect can now be disabled by turning the Decay parameter to its maximum value.
  • Added Control Surface support for the Akai MPK mini IV.
  • When the Arrangement timeline is focused with no time selected, pressing Esc now moves focus to the headers of the selected lanes.
  • Improved parameter naming in delay sections across devices.
  • Added a Copy Time command in the Arrangement. The shortcut is CtrlShiftC (Win) / CmdShiftC (Mac). The shortcut for Capture MIDI has been subsequently removed.
  • Expanded the draggable resize area at the start and end of MIDI notes. You can now also resize notes by dragging slightly before the note start, which can be helpful when working with very short notes.
  • When running stem separation in High Quality mode, the progress dialog now displays the overall progress instead of resetting the progress indicator for each individual separation step.
  • On Windows, enabling the EnableRealTimeWorkQueue debug option allows Live to create up to 64 threads for audio processing instead of the operating system–limited 32 real-time threads. Note that this does not necessarily improve performance, as a higher number of threads can increase thread management overhead.
  • A warning is now shown in the Link preferences when the selected audio driver is not compatible with Link.
  • Core Library updates:
    • Added new Drum Racks by KUČKA.
    • Added presets for the updated Erosion device.
    • Presets for the legacy version of Erosion are now available under Packs/Core Library/Devices/Audio Effects/Legacy/Erosion Legacy.
    • Updated the default preset for Chorus-Ensemble.
  • The colors used for deactivated or other inaudible clips in the Session View have been updated to better distinguish them from empty clip slots. Deactivated clips in take lanes have also been updated to make it clearer which sections are used in the main lane.
  • An error message is now displayed when separating stems if the operation cannot be performed due to insufficient disk space.
  • When separating stems, the exported audio files now retain the same bit depth as the source material.
  • Solo can now be toggled with the S key for selected chains in the Session View. If a track is selected, the S key toggles solo for the track.
  • The horizontal border between Session slots now uses the shade of the surrounding clips' color instead of neutral gray to mitigate color strobing effects.
  • Updated software text in various areas of Live.

Max for Live Improvements

Updated the bundled version of Max to 9.1.3. This update introduces new parameter visibility options to handle a variety of common use cases.

The new "Visible" and "Visible (Not Stored)" visibility modes expose parameters to Live, but do not support automation. Practically, this means that they are visible to Push (and other control surfaces), but will not appear in the automation view. The "Visible" mode also causes Live to store the parameter's value in presets and with the Set for later restore. "Visible (Not Stored)" does not store the value, which can be useful for momentary controls. Note that this mode is not yet implemented in Live, but is expected to be implemented in a future update.

The visibility modes are only available for Float, Int and Enum parameter types. When using these modes, a new parameter attribute will become available in the object's inspector: "Undo When Visible". This attribute is on by default; however, when the attribute is disabled, your Visible parameter becomes invisible to Live's Undo system.

Bugfixes

  • The back and forward navigation buttons in the browser now correctly navigate to the Splice label, the Cloud label when unauthorized, and the Max for Live label when Max is unavailable.
  • Status Bar messages for parameters disabled due to macro mappings now display the correct macro name.
  • The Min/Max columns in the Mapping Browser now have a minimum width of 50 pixels and can expand to a maximum width of 80 pixels.
  • Fixed an issue where a custom device name would revert to the default name after switching between A/B compare states.
  • Fixed an issue where pitch-locked MIDI note drawing did not behave as expected.
  • Macro Variations now fold and unfold with the device as expected.
  • Clips copied or recorded into the Arrangement from seamlessly looping, unfaded Session clips now continue to loop seamlessly. The Fade button for Arrangement clips is always visible and determines whether loop jumps are faded.
  • Soundtoys plug-ins no longer crash after performing Undo immediately after instantiation.
  • Improved selection behavior on macOS when Cmd-clicking in the Arrangement:
    • Cmd-clicking outside the time selection toggles grid snapping and places the insert marker at the clicked position.
    • Cmd-clicking inside the selection toggles the track or lane selection state.
    • When only one track or lane is selected, Cmd-clicking inside the range places the insert marker instead of deselecting the lane.
    • The cursor now indicates whether the lane’s selection state will be toggled.
  • Fixed an issue where error messages in the Status Bar persisted when dragging or dropping instruments or MIDI effects onto unsupported track types.
  • Fixed a crash on Windows that could occur during shutdown when closing Live from the taskbar after dismissing the “Save changes” dialog.
  • Fixed two issues when entering fullscreen on macOS with “Displays have separate Spaces” disabled:
    • Live’s window no longer extends beyond the bottom edge of displays with a notch.
    • The macOS Dock and menu bar now appear when moving the cursor to the corresponding screen edge.
  • Expanded views in disabled devices now allow interaction with controls as expected, matching the behavior of standard device views.
  • Fixed an issue where Roar’s modulation section title required a double-click to open. The section now opens on single-click, consistent with other sections.
  • Fixed an issue where the Slice to New MIDI Track software text was displayed in the Info View when the Extract Chains menu entry was selected.
  • Fixed an issue where focus did not move as expected for device chain headers when navigating between chain and track headers using the arrow keys.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when opening Live's Settings under certain circumstances.
