Looks like this – an inductive coil is used in/on the EPS16+ as posted by MIK (not me) here:

hier wird gezeigt, wie polyphones Aftertouch funktioniert – über eine Spule, welche in die Platine eingelassen ist, leider macht Emu (=Ensoniq) ja nicht mehr viel im Synthesizerbereich. Schade, nurnoch PC-Only Soundkarten.
