Ableton Live 8.2.4 Beta: MIDIClock Slave + OSX Lion

Es gibt eine neue Beta von Live, 8.2.4. Es wurde u.a. das Verhalten als MIDI Clock Slave verbessert.
Damit soll Live als Slave bei konstanter Clock stabiler, im Gegenzug reagiert die Clock träger auf Tempoveränderungen.

The latest Live 8 beta (8.2.4b1) introduces a new MIDI clock algorithm, which should improve Live's stability when running as a slave. This means that Live's tempo calculation and phase correction should be more precise than in older Live versions and you'll get less warping artifacts, which is particularly helpful for the "repitch" warp mode.

There is, however, also a small disadvantage: Whilst the new algorithm works great at a constant tempo, it now reacts slightly slower to tempo changes. As we do believe that the majority of our users rather syncs to a constant master tempo, we hope that the improved stability outweighs this small disadvantage. Anyway, we'd encourage you to try out the latest beta and check how good (or bad) it works for you. In case you have problems with the new algorithm, please contact support@ableton.com.

Please note:
- These changes only affect the clock slave behavior. There was nothing changed on the clock master algorithm.
- The stability of the slave algorithm still depends on your system and the quality of your master clock. If you have a real bad master clock or bad MIDI drivers, you probably won't see much of an improvement.
- If you sync 2 computers, consider to send the clock over an ethernet connection (not WiFi!), which usually works better than an ordinary MIDI interface.

Improvements:

· Switch OVR ON or OFF does not create an Undo step anymore
· MIDI sync has been improved when Live is a MIDI clock slave
· Imported tracks (from the Live Browser) now route to Master if their original output routing can't be resolved, instead of "Sends Only"
· The default for the Takeover mode in the MIDI Preferences is now Value Scaling instead of Pick-up
· We now prevent choosing the root of the system hard drive (or the Windows system folders on Windows machines) as the third-party plugin location. Doing that would crash Live on startup, because these folders contain files that are interpreted as third-party plugins.


Bugs fixed:

· Fixed an installer problem on Windows machines
· Lice could crash when previewing clips in the Live Browser that contain modulations that can't be played back because of the freezing
· Track names could be incorrectly displayed when unfolding a Live set in the Live Browser. This only happened for "automatic names" that tracks get from the Instrument they contain.
· Detail view appeared empty after Hot-Swapping an unfolded Rack, because devices were scrolled out of view.
· Infinitely long clips would be created if rewinding the global transport while making a new recording.
For Live Sets saved in earlier versions, names of tracks containing Racks, Max for Live devices or third-party plugins may still look wrong. Re-saving the Sets will fix the problem.
· Some Operator presets could sound different when loading them, and then creating or moving a track.
· The Frontier Design Tranzport was not getting updated when switching tracks.
· Live crashed on launch with the latest developer build of Mac OS X Lion.
· The green zoom button was sometimes disabled on Mac OSX.
· Resuming a clip in Session view while the track is armed but OVR is OFF could result in the clip not playing its notes.
· Seven crashes were also fixed

ich hatte das letzte Woche im Forum erwähnt und die haben ratz-fatz reagiert und es gefixt - deshalb wollt ichs mal explizit erwähnt haben

das ist schon mal nicht schlecht!

jetzt fehlt nur noch ein algorithmus, der aus der audioengine eine zum audio tighte midiclock zieht, welche auch über 0815 midiinterfaces ausgegeben wird. also midiclock master verbesserungen...

Ich hab den "neuen" Algorithmus heute mal getestet und muss sagen: da hat sich wirklich was verbessert.
Am deutlichsten merke ich das an tempo-synchronen Effekten von Drittplugins, vor allem Delays.

Beispiel impOSCar, V-Station, Zebra 2: wenn ich da die internen, tempo-synchronen Delays nutze, bekomme ich bei Live 8.2.2 als MIDI Slave deutliches Wabern / Störungen / Tonhöhenschwankungen auf dem Delaysignal, als würde sich die Delaylänge ständig an ein variierendes Mastertempo anpassen müssen.

Mit der Live 8.2.4 Beta im MIDI Slave Modus: saubere Delays
