After reviewing the feedback from our recent post, it’s clear that most people prefer a desktop version of the Mutator that can also be rack-mounted. The advantage is that it needs less space, is Eurorack ready, and can be 19” rack-mounted if needed.

We’re now finalizing our exciting Mutator product and are collaborating closely with the original designer to ensure its authenticity and quality. The Mutator is a legendary analog filter and envelope follower that gained prominence in the '90s, known for its unique ability to transform sounds in creative and dynamic ways. It’s been a favorite tool for many musicians and producers, offering rich, warm analog filtering with the ability to create complex modulations and effects.

We appreciate all the feedback and support as we move forward with this project. Hope you are excited as we are

Der wird wie z.B. der Spring Reverb alle Ein- und Ausgänge auch als 6,3mm Klinke zusätzlich auf der Rückseite haben.

Auf dem Bild oben sind keine 6,3mm Klinkenbuchsen auf der Rückseite zu sehen. Ist vielleicht auf der Zeichnung vergessen worden.

“Little-known fact:
Contrary to the information given by the Mutronics website, the Mutator was conceived, designed, and the first production runs hand-built and tested by a British guy called Nigel Bradbury who started Mutronics with London-based studio-owner Mark Lusardi in the mid 1990s.

With his partner and their new-born daughter remaining in their home-town of Oxford, Nigel worked on the Mutator in London for £50 a week, almost all of which was taken up by the rent for his grimy week-day accommodation and bus transport back home at the weekends. Eventually it became uneconomic and uncomfortable for him to continue spending so much time away from his family, and Nigel parted company with Mutronics with nothing but a second-hand Mutator (previously owned by Duran Duran, no less) to show for his hard work and creativity.

His part in conceiving and creating what is probably the best analog filter unit available remains unmentioned on the Mutronics website and promotional materials, and some people feel he was unfairly treated by his business partners. To this day he refuses to discuss this period of his life.“

Let’s send some love to Nigel and give him the recognition he deserves, celebrating his lifelong contributions to the music industry.

I own an OG Mutator since they came out (sic, die Red.), and yeah, ''back in the days'', when everything was digital (kind of, you get my point), it was a very interesting plus for any setup, but to be honest, as much as it has its own sound, it's nothing that special in today's take on analogue, with so many good (and often cheap) analogue tools available. it was mostly desirable because not many similar tools were available off the shelves (or overpriced), but I don't think it has the same appeal today, Eurorack and so on being more and more ubiquitous.

but again, YMMV...

Mir fehlt noch "awesome", "disruptive" und "deep dive". Die müssen noch etwas outside the box thinken, um auch die low hanging fruits ernten zu können. Aber that's bestimmt schon on the radar.

Das hat in etwa die Wirkung, als würden sich irgendwelche feisten Politiker irgendwelcher veralteten Ausdrücke bedienen, um sich einen jugendlichen Anstrich zu geben und sich bei einem jugendlichen Publikum einzuschleimen.

Oberaffentittengeil. Bockstark, Alter.

Vielleicht einfach mal die Füße etwas stillhalten und nicht ständig von sich selbst besoffen sein.

Was ist den an diesem Gerät eigentlich der konkrete ,feine Unterschied zu einem "normalen" eurorack Filter mit Hüllkurve und Lfo im Verbund ?

Daß man alles praktisch und in Stereo in einem Gehäuse hat. Man darf nicht vergessen, daß das Mitte der 90er ein ziemliches Alleinstellungsmerkmal war.

Der Mutator ist auch eher auf der "guten Seite", während die kurz darauf erschienene Sherman Filterbank eher zu der heftigen Sorte gehört.

Alternativ finde ich den S-Cat Filter Phase empfehlenswert. Der ist noch etwas vielseitiger.

Daß man alles praktisch und in Stereo in einem Gehäuse hat. Man darf nicht vergessen, daß das Mitte der 90er ein ziemliches Alleinstellungsmerkmal war.

Als Einzelgerät wenn man kein Modular hat wirklich ne gute Sache. Als "Platzsparbrötchen" und auch "Gearvermeidungsminister" denke ich aber wenn man dat Ding eh
ins Eurorack schraubt kann ich mein Eurorack auch mit flexibleren Einzelteilen nebenbei als Filterbank betreiben. Sorry, nur meine Gedanke. Das Gerät ist schon ein toller Kasten.
Ich weiß bescheid und bin mal wieder flux geheilt vom g.a.s. (meine Art mit G.a.s. umzugehen).
Für Live, wo man mehrere Dinge braucht ist der Kasten natürlich Super. Ich bin ja nur im Studio aktiv.

Heute, wo so ziemlich jede DAW ein überzeugendes Filter drin hat und dazu die Dutzenden von verfügbaren Filterplugins ist es auch nicht mehr ganz so überwältigend.
Außer natürlich, wenn es unbedingt echte Hardware sein muß.

Da bin ich jetzt eher pragmatisch eingestellt und nutze auch gerne ein Softwarefilter, wenns gut klingt und eh schon vorhanden ist. Da brauche ich nicht noch unbedingt zusätzliche Hardware.
