8-stimmig und MPE find ich schon gut. Und der Formfaktor ist auch gut. Ob das nun Pink sein muss, sei dahingestellt (Geschmacksfrage).
 
Auf den ersten Blick finde ich den sehr interessant. Ich mag den Formfaktor. Mit Audio Input, FM Radio und dem Mikro ist das Ding auch ziemlich flexibel.

EVIL PET – My 2 Cents

EVIL PET is a granular synth with up to eight voices, an effect processor, and a radio (yes — that’s also included and can be used as a sound source). It’s well-built — I love the cherry keys — and can be powered by different power supplies (9–18 V, 500 mA). Due to its compact size, it fits easily into a small bag. The potentiometers feel great, and after a short learning period, you should be able to play with it quite smoothly.

Being a granular effect device/synth, samples can be imported, recorded live, and stored on a microSD card. EVIL PET offers dials for all relevant parameters of the granular section, making it really fun to explore and edit sounds. You can also set the sample recording length in seconds, though not a BPM-based length like 4 bars, etc. The latter would have been useful for live performance.

Three LFOs help shape the sound automatically and can be freely routed to most parameters. You get different LFO shapes plus an envelope follower, which works nicely on the filter or saturation — for example, to shape only the peaks of a drum signal.

Samples are always converted to mono, which is a shame, but you can distribute the grains via spread in the stereo field. So you lose the stereo effect of the original sample but regain stereo width on the output. I occasionally ran into audio dropouts when pushing polyphony, reverb, and grains too far, but I assume that’s something that could be resolved in a firmware update. Alternatively, you can deactivate anti-aliasing, which not only eliminates dropouts but also allows more grains and unlocks a grittier sound.

If you like, you can also spice up the signal with a nice reverb that includes shimmer. I like that the reverb not only has its own EQ but can also be controlled directly without diving into submenus — super useful when playing live.

Speaking of menus — some functions I’d change more often are hidden within them, such as filter type, LFO sync, or changing the effects. It would be great to have these more accessible via a shift combo. On the other hand, I’m not sure how that could be done, to be honest, since the layout already gives access to quite a lot of parameters, even with shift functions. So I guess it’s a fair compromise.

TL;DR: EVIL PET is a great addition to the ever-growing granular synth segment — easy to use yet compact enough to fit into small studio or live setups. If you’re new to granular synthesis, EVIL PET is a fun and accessible way to start, but even professional users will find plenty to explore.
