das war ja schon laenger im schwange, jetzt gibt olivier im m.i. forum schon mal ein paar mehr infos:

I have been very busy since september planning a roadmap of 10 eurorack modules to release. 4 of them are ready to get out of the pipeline (20 pieces of each are waiting for their panels at the factory; and the parts/assembly line are booked for more of them); 6 of them are in various design stage, at best a working board needing testing and firmware tweaks, at worst a routed PCB waiting to be built.

The first 4 products are:

A multi-synthesis voltage-controlled digital oscillator, featuring the same kind of stuff you’ve come to love from the Shruthi oscillators, but with more control, a higher sound quality (ARM MCU instead of an AVR).
A 4-channel chiptune-style digital oscillator (3 channels of square/pulse + 1 channel of NES edgy triangle, sine, or LFSR noise). With a built-in mini arpeggiator/sequencer.
A compact (8-HP) VCF/VCA using the 4P circuit (LP2, BP2, and LP4 outputs).
An extended version of Anushri’s drum sequencer with a built-in clock, a more complex model, and voltage-control over all parameters.

What will follow:

A 4-channel MIDI interface with some of the MIDIpal MIDI mangling/sequencing tools.
A VC-AR/VC-LFO/VC-DO with complex parametric waveshaping options.
A very curious mixer…

wo bitte bekommt man ne (fertig gebaute) shruthi fuer unter 200 euro?
und wie steuert man die dann per cv? (ohne weitere mods)

ich finds auch nicht billig. aber wenn das modul haelt, was olivier andeutet (bessere wandler, flexiblere kontrolle), werd ich vermutlich zugreifen.

Ich finde das "Mutable Instruments"-Design auch sehr schön. Schlicht, funktionell.

vorsicht, geht etwas robuster los.

langsam springen alle auf eurorack auf. das ist toll. gut über grafik läst sich streiten. bei make noise hatte mich das erst auch gestört. heute habe ich mich dran gewöhnt und finde die module toll.

viel geld verschlingen dann wohl wieder die frontplatten. desewegen finde ich es schade, dass die teile nicht als diy oder finish yourself rauskommen.

I have been testing a beta version of Braids for 2 months now and I can say a few things:

-It will be worth whatever it costs and more. It feels closer to something like a TipTop z-DSP with a card’s worth of oscillator emulations than it is to the traditional one-knob-per-function “virtual analog” Digital VCOs that have been the norm in Euro up to now. Certain manufacturers who resell the same hardware twice, just changing the faceplate labels and the (closed-source) code between models will have a very hard time justifying their behaviour from now on…

-It does things that nobody else is doing. Exhibit A: Physical modelling of plucked and blown things under realtime voltage control.

-It can sound as pristine or as wonky as you wish, thanks to a great set of configuration menu options. Likewise, tuning it to your quantizer/ MIDI>CV interface takes about 10 seconds…

-It is dead easy to upgrade firmware-you can do it via .wav files thru the headphone out of an iMac. Or for those rolling their own code, you can use a $5 FTDI USB<>serial adapter via an optional header on the back, which is actually more straightforward to use than avrdude.

Ich glaub ich mach's wie nanopole und verkauf mein Eurorack. Is ja schrecklich wie oft da Kaufrausch generiert wird. Pro Monat kommen gefühlte 50 Module auf den Markt.

Also ich muss sagen auch wenn ich momentan ohne Modular bin, bereue ich es nicht mein 5HE System verkauft zu haben. Ich freue mich wie sau wieder auf Eurorack und das Soundcloud Demo vom Braids finde ich mal abnormal. Super.

imho ist das braids das beste euro modul seit langem. ich konnte es auf dem hk testen, extrem vielseitig und die verarbeitung ist auch top. sicherlich auch nett, mehrer stimmen davon simultan zu nutzen

seid ihr auch schon bei den anonymen "ihr wisst schon was" ? ..........oder tut ihrs noch ?



dachte mir auch dass mehrere braids schon lsutig wären.
dachte aber auch dass mit so modulen ein gwisser "modularfaktor" verloren geht.
jetzt muss man nicht mehr patchen können, nicht mehr hunderte oder tausende von stunden investiert haben.
dicke brieftasche.......mehr braucht man nicht mehr.
....und am schluss tönt dann jeder wie der andere, wie mit software
..halt ein paar gedanken.
finde braids aber auch extrem interessant.

braucht man braids, kann die andern VCOs rauswerfen....... ....dann sihe 3 zeilen weiter oben

mittlerweile sind sie bei schneiders angekündigt.
hab gestern schon einmal ein braids bestellt … ich hab das gefühl, dass die ziemlich schnell weg sein könnten. 8)

Nette Teile, nur so wie es aussieht möchte Olivier so langsam mal ein bißchen mehr als angefangene Dosenravioli und abgelaufene Milch im Kühlschrank haben. Absolut verständlich und nachvollziehbar trotzdem werde ich bei solchen Preisen sicher erst einmal nicht zuschlagen. Ist schon ziemlich heftig wie ich finde.
Jetzt bitte keine Argumentation nach dem Motto: "aber andere sind noch viel teurer!". Klar stimmt, aber die finde ich auch zu teuer und mir ist auch klar, daß Angebot und Nachfrage die Preise regeln. Ist halt Marktwirtschaft. Kann jeder halten, wie er möchte.

Wer ein Modul hat, möge doch bitte mal hier berichten.

hast du dir schon den funktionsumfang von braids angesehen? gemessen an anderen anbietern und deren vco's und preisen erscheint mir braids schon vernünftig bepreist.


ripples ist ja im vergleich zu anderen filtern eher günstig, ich finde die module spannend.

es gibt uebrigens eine neue firmware von braids, mit einigen neuen features:

- drei neue drum-modes: 808-kick, 808-snare und 808-cymbal noise source
- zwei neue osc-modes: triple-sine und triple-triangle (auf initiative von usern BennelongBicyclist und Sneak-Thief, die eine eigene braids-variante mit zusaetzlichen osc-modes gemacht hatten)

aus dem m.i. forum:

Three new modes:

KICK: 808 bass drum model (from Peaks), with 1V/Oct pitching. TIMBRE = decay ; COLOR = tone (low-pass filter).

SNAR: 808 snare drum model (from Peaks), with 1V/Oct pitching. TIMBRE = tone (balance between resonant modes 1 and 2) ; COLOR = “snappy” (noisiness).

CYMB: LFSR and 808 cymbal noise source (à la A-117 / AD Mad Hatter), with 2V/Oct pitching. The cymbal “drone” goes through a BPF (just like on the 808), the LFSR through a HPF. TIMBRE = bpf/hpf cutoff. COLOR = LFSR <-> cymbalish drone balance.

I have worked on a few more things:

1/ Added some code required by a hardware revision planned for mid 2015. I don’t want to maintain two versions of the code, so the firmware determines if it’s running on the existing hardware or the revised one, and acts accordingly. This eats about 1100 bytes.

2/ Moved the 808 drums models after the additive drum sounds and put the cymbal between the kick and snare – for happy META-ing.

3/ Reduced code size by removing easter egg verification through hashing (now that the cat is out of the bag). I will not remove the Easter egg from the official version, though – I simply don’t want to deal with people thinking their module is defective because they can’t reproduce the procedure they’ve read about somewhere…

4/ Reduced code size by reducing the size of the resonator lookup table (so many 0s!).

5/ Reduced code size by reducing the resolution of the comb/buzz wavetable in the highest frequencies.

6/ Added proper triple sine and triple triangle – running at the full sample rate.
