I think this is a custom-made trigger generator to drive the sequencer rig with. It seems likely that it predated the EEH CM-2/4 series of sequencers and trigger units. There´s a dedicated EEH Sequencer thread somewhere in the archives.

Hello threadstarter, you see, for the right TD sound you need only a Spectralis and the right hands!

But there is also a difference between "any hardware" and Spectralis, see Jörg's great videos, but clean your ears first. :D
