Hello from Rotterdam

j0ris

..
Just wanted to say a quick "hi". I'm from the Netherlands, can read German OK, but will embarrass myself by writing in German :)

Musically I grew up in the 90s, and I am now getting together a studio with mostly 90s gear. E.g. Mackie 8 bus mixer, Akai & Emu samplers, Juno 106, MKS50, MC-202, Korg MS20, Acidlab Bassline 3, MFB Dominion 1, and some FX like Lexicon LXP5, Boss SE70, Ensoniq DP4+.

I am looking to get this 90s underground techno/rave/gabber sound back.

Even though in my city of Rotterdam gabber was the most popular sound, I always had a soft spot for the German sounds as well. In the 90s I visited Berlin a few times, had lots of fun.

I've been active on the Dutch synth forum for years, but things have gotten a bit quiet there, so I thought I'd take a look at the "neighbours" as well :)

Welkom Nachbar! :hallo:
Rotterdam - hmm, Noodle Bar - gibts doch da, also da gibts eine Szene.
Sorry, ich kann leider gar kein Wort Nederlands, aber..

Thanks everyone for the very warm welcome, and even some Dutch words!!

I'm not really into that noodling "scene". I think it's fun to mess around with sounds by yourself for a while, but watching someone else do that is often a bit boring.

And "Nederlands" is already a Dutch word of course, so you are well on your way ;-)

Dag,
as I do in the Dutch Forum, without any Dutch...
welcome!

:)

Hahahaaaaa... bist du das auf dem Foto? :D

That's one of my childhood heros, Randy "Macho man" Savage :) The most hilariously entertaining WWF wrestler of all time IMO.

Hello!
I love Quazar from the Netherlands:

Those are some classy tracks for sure. If I had to list all German tracks I like here I would be busy for a while.

This one was very popular in Rotterdam back in the day:

And the underground German hard trance sound was never popular here but I loved it:

I also love good EBM:

which AKAI and E-MU samplers do you have?

Emu E6400 classic & Ultra, Akai S3200 & S612.

The S612 is a fascinating machine, fun to play with its sliders, but I don't use it much.

The Emu E6400 Ultra is a real workhorse sampler with a powerful basic sound - sure sounds much better than Kontakt - but I don't really agree with all the hype about its Z-plane filters. The hi pass is nice, but I like the Akai S3200 low pass filter much better than the Emus. Also the envelopes of the Emu don't sound quite "right" to me. The 128 MB of ram of the Emu is wonderful though, in contrast to the 32 MB of the Akai. Also my Ultra has 16 outs, which is a real luxory.

Hartelijk welkom.
Prettig met je kennis te maken. :frolic:

Nice to meet you too, Herr Google Translate ;-) Just kidding.

In fact only the morph filters are kind of Z-plane filters and I heard that these are still not the real Z-plane Filters like in the E-MU Morpheus. So the Low Pass Filter is not a Z-Plane Filter. Often i use the Peak/Shelf Morph and never used the other Morph Filters. With this filter you can morph between two Filter settings, this can be controlled by the LFO for example.
