Hi Folks, I hope you enjoy this voyage with me. It's taken me a number of years to complete this album and I apologise sincerely for the wait. The term 'Navigator' is for the listener to decide...but my deep love of the ocean,
my love and heartbreak for the loss of Vangelis, and my fascination for the incredible bravery of the early Arctic explorers, I hope somehow is encaptured in this piece of music.
One in particular, A fellow Irishman Tom Crean, who left his home in Anascaul Co, Kerry at the age of 15 to join the British navy. He accompanied both Sir Robert Falcon Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton to the Antarctic.
It's incredible to think that nothing was known about this mysterious continent at the turn of the 20th Century. Yet these brave men went in search of adventure and glory. For Tom Crean, it was a case of strength and bravery of the highest order.
Awarded the Albert medal for saving the life of fellow explorer Edward Evans , he crossed the Ross ice shelf on foot, over 30 miles with nothing more than a biscuit to get help. Evans later became an Admiral in the British navy,
and never forgot Tom Crean , as he wrote in his diaries.
On his return to Ireland during the Irish war of independence, he never spoke of his adventures, not even his own family. He never wrote anything down. He took these incredible stories of bravery, survival and sacrifice to his grave.
From the people who were with him, they spoke of an incredibly strong man, both physically and mentally. And he loved to sing and be cheerful despite the odds.
The opening track White and blue , is literally from his eyes ..as in my imagination as he saw Antarctica for the first time.
Thankyou all for your support, I would love to have this album pressed to vinyl if it get's a good reception.... we'll see!
Michael.
