The Yamaha QY series is one of the better known „hand held“ workstations (sequencer and sound generator) in one box, so it is in fact a nice midi sequencer. I don’t know if it is able to control external MIDI Synthesizers – QY and RM1X inspired and it has both piano roll editor and the classic MIDI arrangement view. a mini keyboard to control the pitch and some keys to press to get the right parts – phonetic vowels and consonants of the Japanese Language. Please, say and sing „yamaha“, or something with Korg, Moog and Make Noise in it? eine einfache Methode: über einige Tasten werden die notwendigen Buchstaben oder Vocale gehalten und mit rechts die Melodie gespielt, um diesen Synthesizer zum sprechen zu bringen. Nach 3h soll das spielen einigermaßen gut klappen. Ein bisschen Steno, ein bisschen phonetisch gedacht – aber japanisch… Kannste mal die anderen Firmen…

Yamaha introduced a new offspring of the Motif and the downsized MOX series – the 128voice MX49 with smaller keyboard (finally!) and the standard format. USB Editor/MIDI, audio in.. of course this is a rompler and based on workstation style structure like a smaller MO-X , so it’s a lot like the new MM6. But it was and is time to get the idea of keyboards do not need to be larger than 60 keys by default, .. hope to see this on the big models as well, 3.5 Octaves…

ok, the FS1R Digital Synthesizer is for FM, but it also had formant sequences, this flash website simulates this kind of approach, looks very much like resynthesis but is is meant FSEQ – set the speed of the FSEQ curve to get a sample „granulized“ – and still note that this is not granular, nor is it re-synthesis but sequencing formants on 8+8 Oscillators (voiced and unvoices as we know from the FS1R). what does it do? it plays a group of frequencies and moves around in the frequency range. that’s not really…

Yamaha’s Tenori On App „TNR-i“ has just got a nice update (which is free for users – as always): you can now record (!) and share audio and assign user audio – the samples for tenori-on must be unter 5 seconds long (maybe because there is not real envelope – it’s a quite simple drum player kind of sample handling) – anyway – now it can also be sync’ed by WIST – that’s a WLAN/Wifi synch tool that some of us know from Korgs instruments. nice, that Yamaha and Korg…

SynthesizerMagazin Ausgabe #28 updates.. Die im noch aktuellen grade ausgelieferten Synthesizer-Magazin beschriebenen Yamaha Helfer haben noch zusätzliche Funktionen bekommen, die heute veröffentlicht wurden (kostenlos für Besitzer, Preise bleiben gleich bei 2,99€): Die Arp & Drum Abteilung bekommt in der Drum-Pad Abteilung die Möglichkeit kleine Sequenzen abzufeuern. Leider noch keine Controller-Automatisier-Sequenz im Sinne eines Modsequencers, denn DAS wäre der Hammer, aber der erste Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Es gibt einen Drum Roll in dem linken „Bender“ Menü. Set List kann nun auch Grafiken unterstützen, zB für Einstellungen von Bodeneffekten, Modularpatches oder…
